The firewood is indeed pretty expensive but the price is the fact to take it all the way up to Dreamland and paying workers to do so, also we buy it to the locals from Chacaya and give them a generous price for it for their families :)
our location is situated on a steep hill, and the environment requires only basic necessities. If your luggage is large or heavy, we ask that you provide a gratuity of 100Q (approximately $12.98 USD) to our local guide, Walter, who will be happy to assist you. Please remember to carry cash for this purpose..
We generally don’t recommend taking the chicken buses, as they can be a bit unsafe. Instead, we suggest using community shuttles or more organized transportation options. Yes, she will first need to travel to Antigua. From there, she can take another bus or shuttle to Santiago or Panajachel. All of this involves public transportation, which can be a bit risky, so it’s important to stay cautious. We personally only have contacts for private transportation services. However, she can easily find detailed and up-to-date information online. There are several companies like Multibuses, among others that offer more secure and reliable options.
We recommend buying food in Santiago before crossing the lake to have at least breakfast and dinner. But yes, there is a restaurant called Guatitlan, it's a 7-minute walk away. They're usually always open all day, but I can't guarantee it.
Yes, there are always mosquitoes around the lake area. The nights tend to be quite cold and the days warm, which creates ideal conditions for them year-round. Mosquitoes and bugs are generally worse during the rainy season, when humidity increases and they breed more easily.
To improve your stay at Dreamland, we highly recommend always keeping doors and windows closed to prevent mosquitoes and bugs from coming inside. Please also remember that Dreamland is an eco-sustainable place: leaving lights on unnecessarily can attract more insects, so we kindly ask you to turn off lights when not needed. This helps protect the environment and ensures a more comfortable stay for everyone.
